Many dogs and cats are poisoned by various toxic substances - usually rat poison or pesticide. Food is prepared with the poison and put out where the abandoned companion animals and the stray animals are - in villages and towns. Many local residents say that they have been invited to give poisoned food to the dogs and cats - they are also worried about their own animals and that children accidentally ingest the poison which is also have been found in playgrounds. The animals are usually starving and will eat what they find - they suffer very badly from the poison, they get cramps and pain and the process can take an hour before they die. To poison animals in the EU and Europe is unfortunately a common way for governments and citizens to get rid of unwanted abandoned animals - governments should instead take their responsibility and institute laws to be followed in order to prevent unwanted animals are born and become abandoned.
