Mass killing of dogs - the first process in Ukraine

15 February 2012 - After mass killing of street dogs in Ukraine for the first time two so-called Doghunter stand trial.

A 19-year-old should have at least 30 stray dogs poisoned and stabbed to death, as the newspaper "segodnja" reported on Tuesday in Kiev. Animal rights activists even go out of about 100 bloody deeds. The co-defendants had filmed the murders and put the clips on the Internet - this flew on the duo. The men could face up to five years in prison

To start of the trial had a large police presence to protect defendants applied animal friends. The main defendant had previously been severely threatened. "I fear for my life," said the young man.

The Ukraine is one of the countries hosting the soccer Euro 2012. Because of the dogs killing the ex-Soviet republic had fallen before the European Championships in critics. Animal rights activists accused the authorities to be killed en masse in the four venues of street dogs. Now to the strays to be sterilized with German assistance.

Ukraine, January 2011. For the stray dogs Kharkiv (Kharkov) residents built a hut, where animals can hide from the cold.

Many dogs and cats are poisoned by various toxic substances - usually rat poison or pesticide. Food is prepared with the poison and put out where the abandoned companion animals and the stray animals are - in villages and towns. Many local residents say that they have been invited to give poisoned food to the dogs and cats - they are also worried about their own animals and that children accidentally ingest the poison which is also have been found in playgrounds. The animals are usually starving and will eat what they find - they suffer very badly from the poison, they get cramps and pain and the process can take an hour before they die. To poison animals in the EU and Europe is unfortunately a common way for governments and citizens to get rid of unwanted abandoned animals - governments should instead take their responsibility and institute laws to be followed in order to prevent unwanted animals are born and become abandoned.

(2011) Yard cleaners throw the corpses to garbage bins because there is no other way to utilize them. These garbage bins are near the houses where people live and near the playground where children play. There is the smell of decaying body. It brakes sanitary code. Animal Help League volunteers called for police and at the moment they are drawing up a report - We don't have shelters, neither neutering program. We have only poisonings. This is done for the state government program to prepare for UEFA Euro 2012 - European football championship.

Ukraine -  2011. The video is very graphic - This video shows how the dog suffers before it dies. People who saw the sufffering dog called the vets to euthanize the dog to stop its sufferings. The vets came and said that these are definitely the symptoms of poisoning.

The dog died in the middle of the yard where children and people have to witnessed the poor dog. Boys asked if the dog has already died. They said that all kind dogs were poisoned in their yard, they enumerate these dogs. Among them they mention the dog in red collar (it means that this dog had been neutered). Kids tell that they saw a man on a bicycle who put some pills into sausage and fed the dogs. The boys said that the dogs who came were very kind and trusted humans.

(2011) It is suspected that the largest and unique Kharkiv Veterinary Academy takes spayed animals by the contract and conducts cruel experiments on them.

Killing of stray dogs continues in Ukraine - February 16, 2012 - read more
