The purpose to having animals
Do you know why you have a dog or cat - companion animals - what reason do you have?
Do you love animals and their companionship and let them be part of your family and everyday life - you give them your time - do you give the animal the freedom and joy of life that is entitled to their species and natural needs - good and nutritious food and fresh water, mental stimulation and exercise - everyday?

Or do you have animals, just because you can have it as a man - perhaps as a proof that you are rich? Or maybe you like to be king of the hill and reign in your own kingdom of downtrodden animals?
Maybe the dog is forced to live in a cage during the day, when you're at work - you might even have removed the vocal cords on the dog or removed the cats claws - so that the animal fit into your life and living?
Or do you have animals, just because the kids in the family wants it - to play with, as a toy - or you might have an animal just because your friend or neighbor has, and then you must of course have it too?
Maybe you got the animal as a gift for your birthday or Christmas - wrapped in a gift box - or perhaps it is you who have given someone a animal as a gift - as a dead object, without a thought for the animal's needs and good living conditions?

You might be a Backyard breeder - who have small cages everywhere, with animals living their lives in misery - for you to make money - they are just products that people want to buy.
Or maybe you own a pet store that sells dogs, cats and other animals - it is continuously supplied by puppy farms - is needed because 70% of all puppies and kittens are injured, sick and dying before they reach the unaware owner.
Maybe you had a bad childhood or have low self-esteem - it's perfect for you to have a small dog or cat to bully, oppress and beat - they can not defend themselves - and if they try, they will .....
You might be a Backyard breeder - who have small cages everywhere, with animals living their lives in misery - for you to make money - they are just products that people want to buy.

Or maybe you did the same last summer - let the dog or cat free at the gas station or the high way, so that you could go on your vacation? Why would you care, maybe they were fed by someone else? If not, there are other dogs or cats - they're available almost everywhere.
You might even move and leave the dog and cat behind in the house - hoping that they will starve and fade away - why bother, it's just animals - .animals are like possessions, like clothes and furniture that can be discarded when they become boring or too old or not fit into life anymore.

Most people are good to their animals and want the best for them - but there are those who are very cruel and those who are horribly cruel - you might even ask yourself if you read correctly on the page? - you did - it is therefore high time that we as humans, in this century, demands and ensure good animal welfare.
Most animal owners are certainly good people - but try to put yourself in your animals life - become the animal - and then ask yourself - are you happy?
The question is - is it a human right to have (own) a animal and a life without education, skills, responsibilities and requirements?

Because of the cruel reality today for both companion animals and other animals - must laws, rules and regulations, significantly be increased and strengthened.
Drastic measures must be done - ESDAW advocating for the introduction of license to have animals - educational requirements and knowledge - requirements for living condition and environments and at least 50% daily attendance of the owner - introducing register of owners - where you can follow the animal from birth to death - and all animals not in breeding shall be be neutered.
Then it will be, thankfully, not so easy to just walk into a store and buy an animal - like a candy bar.

It does not matter if a person is poor or rich, an animal's value can never be calculated in money. Caring, compassion and love for another life - is free.
